Language and Culture Opportunities for SȾÁUTW̱ Members

Language and Culture Opportunities Purpose

These guidelines are intended to provide respectful and timely support to families when a SȾÁUTW̱ member has passed. These guidelines are put in place as of May 2026. This support is meant to help reduce some of the immediate financial pressures associated with funeral arrangements, while honouring the importance of family, community, and cultural care during times of loss.

SȾÁUTW̱ recognizes that the passing of a community member brings emotional, cultural, and practical responsibilities for families. Funeral support is provided in a compassionate and fair manner to assist with eligible costs and to support families as they gather, prepare, and honour the life of their loved one.

Eligibility

This initiative was introduced as of June 2026 to strengthen access to timely, flexible, and responsive support for SȾÁUTW̱ households participating in language and culture opportunities, including but not limited to language conferences, Tribal Journeys, traditional war canoe participation, and related travel.

These guidelines support SȾÁUTW̱ families and households to access language and culture opportunities that strengthen connection to SENĆOŦEN, cultural identity, community participation, and intergenerational learning.

Funding may be provided for participation in language conferences, Tribal Journeys, traditional war canoe participation, and related travel where the opportunity contributes to cultural learning, representation, and community connection.

The intent of this support is to reduce financial barriers to culturally grounded opportunities while ensuring fair, transparent, and consistent access for households across the community.
