Food Systems Coordinator
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinate food security supports, including emergency food hampers, fresh food distributions, family, youth, Elder, and school food supports, and community meal or kitchen activities.
- Support community gardens, greenhouse activities, food skills workshops, food preservation, traditional food activities, and land-based learning opportunities.
- Respond to members and families with dignity, confidentiality, respect, and clear communication about available supports and follow-up options.
- Maintain accurate intake, referral, inventory, distribution, food safety, participation, and reporting records.
- Work with Health, Education, Child and Family Supports, Elders programming, Housing, Kitchen operations, Finance, Administration, and external partners to strengthen food access and reduce service gaps.
- Support food safety, sanitation, allergen awareness, safe storage, safe handling, risk management, and incident reporting requirements.
- Build respectful relationships with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, youth, families, harvesters, growers, suppliers, funders, schools, service providers, and regional food networks.
- Prepare program updates, funder reports, grant information, community feedback summaries, and recommendations to improve food systems programming.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Combination of office-based work, community outreach, meetings, kitchen/program spaces, and outdoor work in gardens or land-based settings.
- Some evening or weekend work may be required to support community events, seasonal activities, or program needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma or certificate in Business Administration, human services, community support, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education, training, lived experience, and community-based experience may be considered.
- Minimum two years of related experience in food security, community programming, nonprofit services, or related initiatives.
- Experience coordinating food supports, gardens, kitchens, workshops, volunteers, partners, supplies, records, or program reporting is an asset.
- Knowledge of food security, food sovereignty, sustainable agriculture, culturally appropriate food access, and community food systems.
- Strong planning, organization, communication, facilitation, relationship-building, confidentiality, and recordkeeping skills.
- Knowledge of SȾÁUTW̱, W̱SÁNEĆ, and Coast Salish cultural values and protocols, or a demonstrated commitment to learning and applying them respectfully.
- FoodSafe certification, First Aid, or willingness to obtain required training is preferred.
- Must provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector screening, where required.
