Lands Team Lead
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance Coordination and Work Order Management
- Receive, document, prioritize, schedule, and track housing maintenance requests from tenants, staff, and the Housing Manager.
- Determine repair priorities based on health, safety, habitability, urgency, available resources, and established service standards.
- Coordinate work orders from intake through completion, including site visits, inspections, repairs, follow-up appointments, and tenant communication.
- Assess maintenance issues, document observations, maintain repair histories, and escalate urgent, complex, or safety-related concerns to the Housing Manager.
- Follow up with tenants after repairs to confirm concerns have been addressed and identify any remaining deficiencies.
Housing Repairs, Renovations, and Project Coordination
- Perform or coordinate minor housing repairs within the position’s qualifications, authorization, and safety requirements, including drywall patching, painting, fixture repairs, door and window adjustments, flooring repairs, cabinet and hardware repairs, lock replacement, and appliance installation or minor repair.
- Complete basic plumbing or electrical-related tasks only where qualified, authorized, and safe to do so; refer regulated or higher-risk work to qualified trades.
- Support the planning and coordination of housing renovation projects, including minor upgrades, major repairs, accessibility improvements, and lifecycle replacements.
- Assist with scopes of work, project schedules, material lists, cost estimates, contractor access, tenant communication, site readiness, progress updates, deficiency tracking, warranty follow-up, and project close-out documentation.
- Maintain a practical inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment for routine repairs and preventative maintenance activities.
Inspections, Preventative Maintenance, and Housing Condition Tracking
- Coordinate annual, seasonal, move-in, move-out, emergency damage, safety, and post-repair inspections as directed by the Housing Manager.
- Prepare written inspection reports documenting housing conditions, damages, required repairs, capital replacement needs, and recommended maintenance priorities.
- Maintain housing condition records to identify recurring issues, priority repairs, health and safety concerns, and long-term asset needs.
- Track preventative maintenance schedules for heating, ventilation, plumbing, electrical, roofing, exterior envelope, drainage, fire safety, and other key building systems.
- Identify repairs requiring specialized contractors, technical assessments, warranty follow-up, external referral, or capital replacement planning.
Contractor, Supplier, Budget, and Records Coordination
- Coordinate with approved contractors, trades, suppliers, inspectors, utility providers, and service providers for maintenance and renovation work.
- Obtain quotes, compare pricing, confirm availability, prepare purchase requests, track material orders, and support procurement processes in accordance with organizational policies.
- Review invoices, receipts, quotes, completed work, deficiencies, and supporting documentation for accuracy before submission to Finance and the Housing Manager.
- Track maintenance and renovation expenditures by unit, project, contractor, funding source, and repair category.
- Maintain organized electronic and hard-copy records, including work orders, inspections, photos where appropriate, quotes, invoices, approvals, warranties, contractor documentation, and project files.
- Prepare monthly activity reports and regular updates on work order status, completed repairs, outstanding deficiencies, project timelines, budget concerns, recurring repair trends, and potential cost-saving opportunities.
Tenant Communication, Safety, and Community Relations
- Communicate respectfully with tenants and community members regarding maintenance requests, inspections, scheduled work, renovation impacts, timelines, access requirements, and tenant responsibilities.
- Support tenant concerns by listening, documenting issues, providing clear next steps, and escalating concerns appropriately.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries when working in or around community homes.
- Follow safe work procedures and support compliance with WorkSafeBC requirements, internal safety policies, housing procedures, procurement requirements, and applicable legislation or standards.
- Identify and report urgent safety concerns, including mould, water damage, electrical hazards, structural concerns, pest issues, fire safety concerns, and other risks requiring immediate follow-up.
- Support emergency response activities affecting community housing, including urgent repairs, damage assessments, temporary service disruptions, and coordination with internal or external responders.

- Knowledge of land, environmental, or resource management principles is an asset.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
- Understanding of Indigenous governance, rights, and cultural practices is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with databases or GIS is an asset.
- Ability to supervise, mentor, motivate, coach, and hold staff accountable while building a positive and respectful workplace.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary education in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Planning, Geography, Indigenous Studies, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience developing and implementing strategic plans, policy or bylaw development, land or resource planning, and community consultation and facilitation processes, or related programming.
- Leadership or supervisory experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of First Nations land management practices.
- Understanding of Indigenous governance, rights, and traditional ecological knowledge is preferred.
- Experience in administrative support, project coordination, or referrals management is preferred.
- Experience working with federal and provincial regulatory processes and agencies is an asset.
- Experience working with Indigenous governments or communities is an asset.
- Understanding of federal and provincial regulatory processes related to land and environmental referrals.
- Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License.
- Ability to provide a clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Primarily office-based with occasional fieldwork.
- Use of office equipment, computer systems, and software applications for tracking and reporting.
- Occasional travel for meetings, site visits, or community engagement.
- Occasional evening or weekend work as required.
