Community Maintenance Technician
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Facility Maintenance & Asset Stewardship
- Support the ongoing care, functionality, and longevity of community buildings and facilities through routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and timely minor repairs.
- Complete maintenance and repair work such as carpentry, painting, drywall, and basic plumbing and electrical tasks to help preserve community assets and reduce service disruptions.
- Identify, document, and escalate maintenance priorities, safety concerns, and repair needs to support effective planning and resource allocation.
Grounds, Public Spaces & Seasonal Operations
- Maintain safe, clean, and welcoming outdoor spaces by completing mowing, trimming, landscaping, debris removal, and general grounds upkeep.
- Contribute to the accessibility and appearance of roads, walkways, parking areas, and public use spaces to support daily operations and community use.
- Carry out seasonal maintenance activities such as snow removal, sanding, salting, and storm response to help minimize hazards and maintain essential access routes.
Infrastructure, Equipment & Operational Support
- Assist with the maintenance of community infrastructure systems, including water, waste, and utilities, under supervision and in accordance with operational standards.
- Operate, inspect, and maintain tools, equipment, and machinery safely and responsibly to support efficient service delivery and reduce downtime.
- Support the care and readiness of community vehicles and equipment to help ensure operational reliability and responsiveness.
Community Service & Event Readiness
- Support community events, meetings, and gatherings through timely setup, takedown, and site preparation services that contribute to successful operations and positive community experiences.
- Respond to approved minor maintenance requests in a professional, respectful, and serviceoriented manner.
- Deliver maintenance services in a culturally appropriate and community-focused way that reflects respect for community values, shared spaces, and member needs.
Health, Safety & Risk Prevention
- Perform all duties in accordance with occupational health and safety requirements, safe work procedures, and departmental expectations.
- Use personal protective equipment and safe work practices consistently to reduce risk to self, coworkers, and community members.
- Monitor for hazards, incidents, and unsafe conditions, and report them promptly to support a safe and well-maintained environment.
Records, Communication & Team Coordination
- Maintain accurate basic records of completed work, materials used, and identified maintenance needs to support tracking and follow-up.
- Assist with inventory monitoring of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment to support operational preparedness.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, contractors, and community members to coordinate work, share updates, and support responsive service delivery.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Grade 12 or equivalent; related training or certifications are an asset.
- Experience in general maintenance, construction, facilities support, or a related field.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License or ability to obtain.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Basic knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
- Ability to operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to communicate respectfully and maintain positive working relationships with community members, coworkers, and supervisors.
